  • What is Yoga Therapy and what conditions can be affected by Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy is based on Viniyoga tradition of Yoga. It is a specific application of various Yoga techniques to help alleviate various chronic conditions. It is our experience that for some chronic conditions such back pain Yoga therapy can be used as the main modality; while for other conditions, it can be used as an adjunctive therapy. We have worked with people undergoing chemotherapy, recovering from surgery and/or undergoing any other serious medical treatment. They reported to us that a carefully designed Yoga Therapy program helped them to alleviate pain and feel better. One of the unexpected and remarkable outcomes of Yoga therapy and Yoga practice in general is the improved mood and the sense of wellbeing – Ananandam!
  • Why should I practice Yoga? What are short-term effects and benefits?
An appropriate Yoga practice is one in which we have an intimate relationship with our body, our breath, our emotions, our mind and our spirit. Since, it is a deeply personal experience – it can be experienced differently for each individual.
Based on our personal experience and the experience of other Yoga students, including my teacher T.K.V. Desikachar and his father T. Krishnamacharya – regular and correct Yoga practice bring these immediate results:
    • Reduces any chronic pain
    • Increases energy and brings the sense of well-being
    • Increases awareness of our body, emotions and mind
    • Clears our mind
    • Brings true happiness and Joy (these can grow very slowly but there is no downside)
    • Makes us stronger, more flexible & promotes relaxation
  • What is the long-term benefit of Yoga practice?
According to what we learned from our teacher T.K.V. Desikachar and his father T. Krishnamacharya – regular and correct Yoga practice should improve our relationships, promote health and prepare us for our final time on this earth – death. Actually the main goal of Yoga and Yoga practice is to help us to become free from suffering, reach the enlightenment and find God!
